First success for Eastwood
Noel Eastwood, one of Riccarton’s most successful light-weight horsemen until his retirement from raceriding in the early 1970’s had his first success as a trainer when he saddled Now Born to win the Second Rata Plate at Feilding last Saturday week.
New Born, a four-year-old mare by Sovereign Prince from Quita, is raced by Mr Ernie Worsdale, of Wellington, whose colours have been familiar to Riccarton racegoers in recent years through the deeds of the top-class ‘chaser, Guess Who. Sandy Girl, the winner of the Conway Plate at Feilding also carried a set of colours well-known in southern racing circles. This four-year-old daughter of Beaufort Sea and Renoli is trained by Miss
Noel Eastwood, at the height of his riding career.
