Lampray impressive trialist at Riccarton
By J. J. BOYLE Lampray probably clinched favouritism for the Middle Park Plate by sprinting brilliantly in training at Riccarton yesterday. She hurried over 600 m on the trial grass in an impressive 35.25. Enelbea, a stablemate arid race rival, started with Lampray, but found the pace too hot and dropped away into a gap of two
lengths. Later Fairway Lass and Loriana, two more Middle Park Plate hopefuls, sped from the 600 m on terms in 35.8.
Fairway Lass is a robust type, but has been sharpened by her good run at the trials last Sunday, and should improve further with yesterday’s gallbp. Weinmeister, probably Riccarton’s brightest hope in the Galaxy Stakes, showed he had thrived since the Southland Guineas by sprinting 800 in 47.2. Earlier his stablemate, Aramis, returned 50.6, and 38,6 for the final 600.
Loose Metal completed her
preparation for the Leeston Handicap with a dashing Imin 41.7 s for 1600 m. . The Crofter and Blue Sage worked over a bit of ground, and finished with a 600 in 36.8. Double March and Third Degree followed with an 800 in 51.8. Double March looks solid and bright. He had a more searching test for speed earlier in the week, and did that job well.
• The Chairman and Octane stayed on. terms to the end of a fast-run 1200 m. They finished their task in Imin 14.45, the last 800 in 48.4.
King’s Robe led Starsky by two lengths ending 800 in 49.25, time equalled without much trouble by Indigod in his solo effort.
Indigod’s stablemates, Glydavari and Fufaster, finished their 800 on terms in 49.
