Wee Junior well placed for Waimate win

By

G. K. YULE

Few horses in the slower classes in Canterbury have shown more potential than Wee Junior. He will have a chance to prove his worth in the Waimate Cup tomorrow.

A four-year-old by the former top performer, Wee Win, Wee Junior won at Addington three starts back, he has had no luck in two starts since then, but he has drawn favourably tomorrow and he should be able to use his speed and stamina to good advantage. Young Beau is overdue for a winning turn. He has not been further back than fourth in his last four starts. A week ago he came on steadily to beat all but the speedy Twilight Mist at Addington Raceway. He should be able to maintain a prominent position throughout and looks to be the one for Wee Junior to beat. Tipperary won narrowly at Orari on November 28 after being late securing a run along the inside. The son of Noodlum has always looked to have more ability than most in his class and he should measure up to this company without too much trouble.

Regal Glow and Now’s Your Chance are form runners on the limit, and, along with Worthy Del, Enterprise and Tussock, they look capable of taking a prominent part in the finish. The speedy four-year-old, Yankee Rhythm, appears to dominate the second leg of the double, the Town and Country Handicap. Yankee Rhythm is unbeaten in two race starts, the most recent of which was at Orari on November 28. He will meet a fairly strong field, but is expected to be too good for most of his rivals. Ginger Creek, Benjie Tara, Magda Sorrel, Game Classic and Joe Charm are others entitled to consideration. Race 1 12.5W. J. MCCONE HANDICAP $1750; CO; trotters; 2600 m
