Youth remanded on charge of assault

Shane Murray Kerapa, aged 17, charged that with intent to injure he assaulted Malcolm Gavin Wong, was remanded by Judge Frampton to December 17 on bail of $l5OO. Glen Douglas Rossiter, also 17, an apprentice electrician (Mr P. N. Dyhrberk), charged with assaulting Mr Wong, was remanded to December 18.

No pleas were entered by the defendants to the alleged offence which took place on December 9.

In the case of Kerapa bail was opposed by Sergeant J. E. Dwyer. The charge relates to a stabbing incident involving a jogger at Church Corner. Sergeant Dwyer added that it was likely that a more serious charge ‘would be laid against Rossiter. BOOKMAKING CHARGE . A middle-aged couple appeared in the dockcharged that, with another, they Carried on the business of bookmaking. Bruce Edward Lucinsky, aged 46, a labourer, (Mr S. G. Barker) was remanded on bail of $BOO to February 26 for a defended hearing. His wife, Marie Lucinsky, aged 53. a van driver, was remanded without plea to ■December 17. She was allowed bail of $4OO.

BURGLARY CHARGE Three men, each- charged with burgling, the Montreal Street premises of Robert McLean, Ltd, were remanded without plea;,to December 17. Neil Douglas 19. John Bradshaw, aged 18, both unemployed, and Davio " Lyle Gordon, aged. 19, a storeman packer, were each allowed bail of $lOOO. The alleged offence took place on November 5. P DRUG CHARGES A watersider charged with cultivating cannabis.and with possessing the drug for sale or supply was remanded on bail to December, 17.

No pleas were entered by Brian Norman Clifton, aged 35, who is alleged to have committed the offences on December 9. DEPOSITIONS Gregory Mark Allen, aged 20, unemployed, charged with burglary and theft, was remanded on bail to February 11 for the taking of depositions. He is accused of burgling the Main South Road premises of Reidrubber (N.Z.), Ltd, on November 29, and with stealing 11 tyres, valued at $lBO, the property of the firm. CORRECTIVE TRAINING A storeman, aged 19, convicted of burgling a house in Harrow Street and with wilfully ’ setting fire to a telephone box, was sentenced to corrective training. Murray Robert Latimer (Mr P. N. Dyhrberg) admitted the offences. Sergeant Dwyer said at 9.40 p.m. on September 8 the defendant and two associates were seen to run for a telephone box at the intersection of Swans Road and Stanmore Road just before it burst into flames. Petrol residue was found in the burnt-out box. Damage was estimated at $ll3O. The telephone box had been removed but not replaced.

Latimer said the offence arose after finding the telephone out of order. On October 27, the defendant and an associate had been observed breaking into a house in Harrow Street. No property was taken and the pair had left by the time the police arrived. Latimer was arrested on December 9. He admitted being involved. He refused to name his associate and said they were loosing for money. Mr Dyhrberg said of the arson charge that his client had thrown a match into the telephone box but that the petrol had been poured into the box by an associate.
