Mail dispute over
The postal dispute in Christchurch was settled yesterday. The 130 postmen had threatened to stop overtime work from Monday in protest against the management’s decision to not offer work on the two Sundays before Christmas. The postmen had said that the work was necessary on Sundays to prepare the mail for their rounds for the next week. Under the terms of the
agreement between the Post Office Union and the management. no Sunday work would be arranged, said the Chief Postmaster, Mr N. J. Williams. But sufficient overtime hours would be available to ensure that all mail was delivered before Christmas Day. Postmen would not work on Sunday, December 13. he said. There is one more Sunday after that before Christmas
