Miracle at menagerie
Bill Grey, the director of the North New Brighton Zoo, has achieved small miracles at his ever-growing menagerie.
Starting about 25 years ago with a collection of fish for his aquarium, he has developed it into a surprising area which houses everything from the crocodile (almost always asleep) to a tiger, black panther, spotty leopard and a delightful lioness, who loves her master’s touch and posing for photographs.
There are at least five varieties of monkey, a couple of species of otter and an almost countless number of other furred, feathered and scaled creatures.
The bob cats provide a certain high tone to the menagerie, while there are many more mundane animals, including goats, rabbits, pigs and guinea pigs.
Another little member of the simian genus is due for show to the public by Christmas.
