Bridle Path walk
Canterbury residents will have the chance to retrace the steps of the province’s pioneers on Sunday on the annual Bridle Path commemorative walk. The walk is organised each year by the Lyttelton Borough to commemorate the arrival of the Canterbury settlers in the First Four Ships in December, 1850. The Bridle Path was the only land route from Lyttelton to Christchurch. Supplies to and from the port at Lyttelton had to be carried over the path. A certificate will be issued
to those who take part in the walk on Sunday. The walk will begin from Ferrymead between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. and will end at the Council Chambers in Lyttelton. Buses will leave Cathedral Sauare from Woodwards corner for Ferrymead at 12.30 p.m. Buses will also leave Lyttelton at 1 p.m. The buses w ill return from Lyttelton to Ferrymead and the Square from about 3.15 p.m. Any cancellation will be broadcast on 3ZB at 9 a.m. or 11 a.m. on Sunday.
