Pilot theft victim

A United States Navy pilot flew home $B2O poorer yesterday after a burglary of his room at the White Heron Travelodge. A thief forced the door of the pilot’s room on Monday evening while he was at dinner. The money was in New Zealand and American notes. A safe containing $5OO in cash and two cheque books has been stolen from the Young Women’s Christian Association office in Madras Street.

The police would like to hear from anyone who might have found a pack, the property of a young Australian woman tourist, which was stolen from a youth hostel in Evelyn Couzins Avenue. The brownish-orange pack, with a dark-green sleeping bag attached, contained all that the young woman had in this country. She had left the pack outside the door of the hostel while she went inside to make inquiries, and came out minutes later to find it had gone.
