Fat man dies

NZPA-Reuter New York A man weighing 850 pounds (386 kg who underwent surgery twice to remove layers of fat so that he could breathe has died while recovering from the surgery. The unnamed man, aged 42, had died of a blood clot in the Long Island Jewish Hillside Medical Centre, a spokeswoman, Rosalie Kershaw, said yesterdav. Mrs Kershaw said the death was unexpected, since the man was believed to be recovering well from surgery. In mid-October he underwent surgery twice in which 175 pounds (79.4 kg of fat was removed from his body. The operations were done on a custom-made operating table three times the standard size. A hoist was used to lift the layers of fat that were re- ’ moved from the man's abdomen, and 15 doctors were on hand to turn him over during the surgery.
