Optimism on oil find dampened

PA Wellington Petrocorp (Exploration) officials yesterday dampened optimistic reports suggesting that the McKee field may contain more oil and gas than was initially indicated. They said first results from the McKee 3 appraisal well being drilled had only confirmed original production estimates for the field — about 3200 barrels of oil plus 70.000 cu m of gas daily. The company’s general

manager, Mr Tom Haskell, said yesterday that, four 18'metre cores from the appraiser would soon receive extensive laboratory analysis. “The well shows that the apex of the structure is in the position originally mapped and .confirms the potential production characteristics of the field,” Mr Haskell said. The field was first tapped by the nearby McKee 2 well in October last year.
