Situations Vacant Situations Vacant SOUTHLAND HOSPITAL BOARD FULL-TIME OR PART-TIME SPECIALIST PHYSICIAN Vacancy No: 16/55 (A) APPLICATIONS are invited from suitably qualified Specialist Physicians registerable in New Zealand. This position can be full-time or if desired, it can be negotiated to 7/10 - 9/10 on a part-time basis. The duties are those of a general physician but the successful applicant would be expected to have or to develop a special interest in RESPIRATORY DISEASE. Other special areas of interest, could be. considered. . This well-equipped modern 450 bed general - hospital has 110 acute medical beds served by a team of five consultant physicians. The medical department has a full range of facilities including E.E.G., E.M.G. Echocardiography, Nuclear Medicine . with gamma camera endoscopy services and Coronary and Intensive Care Units. There are opportunities for clinical research with possible funding from the Southland Medical Foundation. The hospital has had fully accredited recognition for basic physician training from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians but at present due to shortage of physicians has limited accreditation for basic physician training only. The Department of Medicine has close association with the University of Otago Medical School and is involved in the training of final year medical students. There is an active education programme in which the new appointee would be expected to participate. The Southland Hospital serves a population of 120,000 in the southern area of the South Island. It is sited in the City of Invercargill, with a population of 50,000 people. Salary and conditions of employment would be in accordance with the Hospital Service Determination for Medical Officers. Commencing salary for this appointment would be determined by the Director-General of Health within the Specialists Automatic Scale $32,162/$41,404 according to the appointee’s qualifications and experience. Movement within this scale is by automatic annual increments and there could be the opportunity of extra duty supplements. Provision exists for advancement on merit to higher gradings within the range of $44,220/854,495.
