$50,000 for share in bull

Turihaua, the doyen of New Zealand Angus studs, is continuing its acquisition of premier Angus sires witn the recent purchase for $50,000 of a half share, and possession, of the bull Master Quench of Kauere, from H. F. Saunders and Sons, Tirau. He is shown in the photograph. Only last year, at the Kaharau sale. Turihaua paid the equal top price of $70,000 for Kaharau 594. Marcus Williams, of Turi-

hatia. says that Master Quench, with his strong pedigree concentrations of Bandit of Turihaua, Turihaua Eclypta, Earl of Ngawaka and Diane of Kauere, coupled with his own great length, soundness, style and temperament, gives great promise for his future progeny. Mr Fred Saunders says that he retained Master Quench of Kauere for use in his first season in his own stud because of his differ-

ence from other bulls born at Kauere in 1977. He was taller and rangier and had an excellent temperament. Master Quenchs first crop of yearlings are showing excellent growth potential. His own sire, Quench of Turihaua, has provided Kauere with half brothers who have topped the Putaruru bull test in 1981, been equal top in 1979. and have got top price at the national sale in 1979 and second top in 1981.

During the World Forum herd tours. Mr Saunders says that Master Quench attracted the attention of many American and Canadian breeders. “He is different to the usual New Zealand style of Angus bull and much more like their type, but he has not given anything away in getting there.” he said. It is hoped there will be export semen available from him in the new' year.
