Marylands finances

Sir,—The many supporters of Marylands may wonder why we still need to make a great financial success of the fete to be held at the school in Nash Road, Halswell, on Sunday. Some appear to think that because the Government came to our help a few years ago, we are now being well looked after financially. Unfortunately this is not so, because we have an ongoing deficit of about $56,000. While the school is on Government-owned land and the buildings are financed by the State, we are still treated as a private school. We are not complaining, but wish to tell our supporters that we still look to them at such times as the Christmas fete; and we know they will not disappoint us.—Yours, etc., J. LAGAN, Chairman, Marylands Auxiliary. December 3, 1981.
