Escape bid charge
A man in the District Court yesterday was committed for trial’ on a charge relating to his allegedly attempting to escape from custody while he and 10 other prisoners were being transferred from the District Court holding cells into a police van on November 4. The defendant. Barry John Wiki, aged 28. unemployed, had denied a charge of escaping from police custody.
Mr M. B. Hayes and Miss J. Taylor. Justices of the Peace, held there was sufficient evidence to commit the defendant for trial. He was remanded to December 18. pending his trial in the District Court. He was also remanded to the same date on an additional charge of attempting to escape from Addington Prison on October 20.
