Complaints decried

Business and local government leaders should be more vocal about the achievements of Christchurch City, said the Mayor (Mr Hamish Hay) last evening. Formally opening the new Hereford Street branch ot the Commercial Bank ot Australia, Mr Hay said he had become “weary of hearing local people, including politicians, selling Christchurch short by continually harping about the city’s economic and unemployment problems. The people ot Christchurch, especially

leaders of its business community and local government, had to adopt a more positive attitude towards the potential for the city. He said they should be more vocal and enthusiastic about what was being achieved in Christchurch, including the expansion of industry and commerce, and the potential for future expansion and new investment. Mr Hay said that the opening of the new C.B.A. branch in the city was “tangible evidence of confidence in Christchurch and the Canterbury province.”
