Ashburton directory proves popular
PA Ashburton Ashburton's own privately printed telephone directory sold like hot cakes when it , went on sale. Bruce Printing, in cooperation with the Kiwanis service, club in Ashburton, produced the directory in defiance of Post Office regulations after local dissatsifaction with the Christchurch-based directory which has no separate Ashburton section. The firm ran off 5500 copies of the local teiphone book, and it seems likely that all will be sold. A reporter who questioned customers was soon convinced of the unpopularity of the Christchurch Districts telephone directory. Some said that the present directory was a “real mess” and that the Ashburton one would be much more convenient to use.
