Boy, 3, dies in pool
A boy. aged three, died when his tricycle toppled into a swimming pool at Brookside. 10 kilometres south-east of Punsandel. about 10.30 a.m. yesterday. He was Glen Wayne Thomson, of Cheviot. The police said that the boy had been visiting a farm in Brookside Road with his parents, and had been pedalling his tricycle out to meet his grandfather when the accident happened. He was pulled from the pool by his mother, who had not been far away, but attempts to revive him had failed, said a police spokesman. An inquest will be held. An Allenton Primary School pupil died during swimming lessons in the school pool on Wednesday morning. She was Tara Margaret Bevington, aged 10, of 22 Miller Avenue, Ashburton. During the lesson it was noticed that she had stopped swimming and'that her head was under water. She was immediately taken from the pool and attempts were made to resuscitate her. A doctor and ambulance were called, and resuscitation at- 1 tempts continued until i arrival at the hospital, where i she was found to be dead. I
