Juniors dominate

The paucity of - senior ranks, allied to the unavailability of Tony Duder, have resulted in juniors dominating the Canterbury amateur cycling team for the South Island inter-provincial hard track championships at Timaru on Sunday. The only three seniors are Murray Steele, Peter Lewis and Graham Brotherston; the juniors, Brian Fowler, Steve Woods, Greg Fraine, Paul Clare and Michael Hazeldine. The reserves are Brent Kircher and Glen Fuller.

The novices, chosen partly on road racing form it seems, are Tim Clyne, Jason Smith, Craig Fenton, Richard Bruce, Shayne Hendren and George McAioon. The reserve is Darrel Kircher, with the unlucky rider, the 13-year-old Brendan Kiesanowski. The four-way contest is intended to also include South Canterbury, Otago and Southland, but no word has yet been heard from the two more southerly centres.
