Placio wins narrowly
PA Auckland Placio. a maiden, caused an upset when she beat the hot favourite, Loughanure, to win the New Zealand Derby Trial at the Auckland Racing Club's meeting at Ellerslie Ridden by Warwick Robinson Placio scored by a nose after taking the lead from Loughanure 300 m out. Loughanure. ridden by Grant Cooksley set the pace and when headed rallied gamely to get within a nose at the line. A stride later he was back in front. Milton Hollow battled on fairly for third, two lengths from Loughanure, with • a short neck to Ringtrue, fourth. Fondella was next.
