Standard for spas sought
Wellington reporter The rapid increase in the popularity of spa pools has led the Standards Association to seek public comment .on a draft standard for them. DR 81250 was prepared at the request of the Council of Australasian Swimming Pools Associations, which believed that the construction and. installation of spa pools was not provided for adequately by existing standards. The intention of the draft is to increase safety and health in the use of spa pools, and is not designed to improve their performance or deal with other economic matters DR 81250 deals with the design, construction, and operation of spa pools. Design requirements cover dimensions, walkways surrounding the pool area, temperature controls, and various safety requirements. In the operation of the spa, there are recommendations on the chemical treatment and maintenance of the water. The standard is only in draft form and is liable to alteration in the light of public comments made.
