Sound performers at Q.E.II

Penalty bearing races were held by the Christchurch Greyhound Racing Club on Monday evening on a wet Queen Elizabeth II Park track after steady rain during the day. The Cl 560 m events produced the two best performances of the night, wins going to Come Alive and Caldie’s Girl. The Kath and Trevor Jolitrained Come Alive was most impressive in wearing down the pacemaker Bad Manners, coming clear to win by three lengths. A bitch by Winronin out of Armatree Trace. Come Alive recorded a very smart 34.805, by far the fastest time of the night. Although recording a much slower time in her event, Caldie’s Girl was an equally attractive winner. The Maureen Kingston-trained daughter of Buffeteer and Export Band was severely checked on the first bend but unleashed a brilliant finish to shade Charlie’s Irish and the pacemaker, No Solitude. Mrs Kingston produced her second winner of the night when the promising Red Pardons scored in one of the two maiden middle distance events. The other was won by Pokai Whenua, which overcame the inconvenience
of a slipped rug and stumbling in the straight to score convincingly, even though his time of 36.61 s was rather slow. The Cl sprints were won by Wadderin Witch (a recent Ashburton winner) and Cavalier Havoc, which repulsed a strong challenge from his litter-mate, Misty Khan. In the maiden sprints wins went the way of Dark Heaven and Charlene's Image.
