Fine trial by Volare
; Special correspondent Awapuni ■ Volare served notice that i he will be the horse to beat in the Maymorn Stakes at Trentham on Saturday when • he looked in fine form at , Awapuni yesterday morning. I Volare has trained on well I since his grand third in the ' Levin Turf Classic. Volare’s 800 m in 47s was ! not the best, yet he was most j impressive, running his last 600 m in 355. It was a fine
effort as he had something in reserve. Il Vento, as usual set the main for 800 m with a dashing 46.2 s and he ran the last 600 m in 34.25. He must be hard to beat in the Adventure Handicap at Trentham. He ran second at Woodville and has thrived since. Rubino should lose his maiden status at Feilding after an unlucky run at Masterton last week. Yesterday he ran 600 m in 36.8 s and will be ideally suited by the
2000 m. Only bad luck in the running will beat him. Regal Corinda took 36.8 s in her 600 m and she should win the Radio 2ZA at Feilding. Rahnessa is only a maiden but a very smart one. She ran her 800 m in 46.85, the last 600 m in 35.25. Only II Vento bettered this time. Hullabaoo, which has a good chance at Feilding. got to the end of 800 m in 48s, the last 600 m in 36s and Mutual and Ascend required Imin 2s for 1000 m. Nun was quick over 600 m in 36.6 s and Halcione went well from the 800 m in 49.65, the final 600 m in 37.65. Expectation liked the easier ground running 1000 m in Imin 3s, the last 600 in 38s and Mason looked fit for Feilding in running 800 in 51s the last 600 m in 38.65. Perlia and Magic Spell impressed over 1000 m in Imin 2s, the final 600 m in 37s and these two should excel at the weekend.
