Cattle prices unchanged
Buyers were faced ■ with a yarding of 3137 store cattle at Addington market yesterday, but values remained similar to the last special sale earlier this month. Every available : cattle pen, apart from those for housing bobby calves, was in use yesterday. . ' The sale lasted until late in the afternoon but was supported strongly by buyers until ’the finish A feature of the market were the Simmentals offered by Scarborough Hill Farm. A line of two-year-old steers from this vendor sold from $440 to $5OO and 29 cows (with calves) which could be regarded as a line of genuine breeding cows, sold for $394. Althougn North Canterbury has experienced a late spring, he condition of most of the adult jattle offered was excellent. Local fatteners gave most of the support to the adult sale and strong competition ensured values remained firm on the last special sale. Yearlings were harder to quit and values eased for some lines. However, the tone of the market was unchanged from recent weeks, although auctioneers had to work very hard to maintain this. ■ - .
One auctioneer said the prices
were at a level which provided a reasonable profit for the seller but still left room for the buyer to operate with.confidence.
