The Gordons next week
£ By DAVID SWIFT * The .■ Gordons, ‘Christchurch’s hardest and ‘loudest group (they were recently compared to Motorjhead!) will have their debut talbum released next week. *To coincide with the release .-•they are playing a one-night aOnly concert at the. Hillsborough Tavern, next Wednesday. ■ ■
s. Alastair, John, and Brent, ((which is how they like to be sknown in print, have not in Christchurch ,-for several months, but have ; built up an astounding popularity in Wellington and, “more recently, Auckland.
a “In Auckland, people went '‘away at first saying it* was £ too loud. We told them that ('in Christchurch we were told >to turn it up, and so they got "used to it,” said Alastair. » He said that the band was “pleased with the seven-track,
40-minute album. All the songs were written especially for the project, which was recorded at Harlequin Studios,, in Auckland.
One stage favourite, “Qual- ! ity Control,” which fans ; might have expected to be included on the platter, re : I mains unrecorded, but there ■ are plans to change that. , The Gordons’ first record, the “Future Shock” EP, sold 1000 copies — all of its pressings — in New Zealand. There are still some copies floating around in Sydney, where it was released to some considerable radio interest. The band was told that the only way that the record would really sell in Australia would be for them to tour, or have someone write a four-page double colour spread about them in a music magazine. Not surprisingly, The Gordons aren’t keen on either.
