Sea views, luxury features of house
Nelson reporter The New Zealand police have a new luxury holiday house in Nelson. The house, bought with money from the Prime Minister’s Springbok tour appeal fund, cost considerably more than the $lOO,OOO said to have been in the appeal fund. The two-level, four-bed-room house at 56 Britannia Heights is at the northern end of what is known as the “dress circle of Nelson.” It has panoramic views from Tahunanui Beach north to the Tasman. The price of the house, the property of Mr and Mrs L.
W. Plum, a retired couple,, has not been disclosed, but it is known' that the asking price among land agents in Nelson was $150,000. The settlement date is late in January after which the house will be open for use by members of the Police Staff and Benevolent Welfare Fund. The boomerang-shaped house is built of permanent materials, and is sumptuous inside. The lower level with entrance through a two-vehicle garage is carpeted in shagpile and the stairway leading to the upper level, and the
rooms above, are also covered in high-quality carpet. The upper level has two bedrooms, plus a large lounge opening on to a balcony which overlooks the entrance to Nelson Harbour and Haulashore Island. The lower level also has two bedrooms and a large recreation room which can also serve as an additional lounge. The fund also has holiday houses in the South Island at Te Anau, Tekapo, «md Wanaka as well as others in the North Island.
