World title to Ferreira
NZPA New Delhi Michael Ferreira, of India, edged out the top seed, Norman Dagley, of England, by less than 100 points at New Delhi yesterday to win the world amateur billiards title. Ferreira ran up 2725 points during the two-day championship match to 2631 for Dagley, who previously had won the crown at Malta
in 1971 and again in Auckland in 1975. Ferreira brought a 248point lead into the second day of the contest and was able to hang on for the victory although both players seemed to buckle under the mounting pressure, missing easy shots when they appeared to be in ’ position for a big score.
