More seminars planned

Further seminars are planned by the Lyttelton Harbour Board for importers and exporters after a successful meeting this More than 50 companies and organisations were represented at the seminar, which aimed to “sell” the port to businessmen. A feature of the day was the showing of a video-tape of the port in action. The chairman of the board (Mr J. E. Mannering) said that the tape was intended to be used as much as possible, and he was not adverse to it being lent to schools. At a meeting of the port development committee this week, some members expressed disappointment that the importers and exporters did not ask as

many questions about the port as they’had hoped, but most agreed that it had been worthwhile. The board is also making other promotional ventures. It has pledged to help make the Lyttelton Tug Preservation Society’s seventy-fifth anniversary celebrations, in October next year, a success by assisting as much as possible. The society is hopeful of gaining the board’s permission to conduct a fair in the wharf area for the celebrations. The Canterbury Promotion Council’s “Let’s Help Canterbury Grow” programme will receive a Visual boost by the placement in a city department store window of the board’s model of the port. It has also been suggested that Lyttelton could benefit from a change of slogan for the programme — “Help Canterbury Grow, Use Lyttelton Port.” ARRIVALS Kweichow (6 a.m.), 12,094, Auck (P and O).
