Reagan remarks ‘no change’

NZPA Washington The White House said yesterday that remarks by President Ronaid Reagan on the future of Jerusalem represented no change in American policy calling for Arab-Israeli talks on the status of the city. It said Mr Reagan told American Jewish teaoers earlier yesteraav that he would prefer Jerusalem to remain undiviaea under Israeli sovereignty but wanted talks to determine its future.

A White House spokesman said Mr Reagan had made identical remarks about .Jerusalem as a candidate in the 1980 election campaign but had not repeated them before as President. Jerusalem, holy to Christians. Jews and Muslims, was taken over in the 1967 Middle East war by Israel, wmch now regards it as its capital.
