Napier wool up

A strong Chinese demand for the last of the season’s hogget fleece at the Napier wool sale yesterday resulted in a rise in prices compared with the Dunedin sale on Thursday. The hogget fleece, which accounted for 28 per cent of the catalogue of 28,625 bales, was quoted as being from 8c to 10c a kilogram dearer than at Dunedin. <

Most other descriptions in : eluding ewe fleece, crutchings, and oddments were unchanged. >. Apart from the Chinese interest, the best support came from Eastern Europe, Japan, and New Zealand carpet mills. : It was estimated unofficially that the total supplementary payout on the sale would amount to about $2,433,000, or $B5 a bale, to bring the price up to the, Government's supplementary

minimum payment of 320 c a kilogram. . This will take the total payout for the season well past $3O million,- although less than 25 per cent of the season's clip has so far been sold. The adjusted weighted average sale price was 257.26 c a kilogram. Based on this, a Government supplementary payment of 24.4 per cent will apply to all wool sold at the sale and all wool sold privately from midnight last night to midnight on November 26.
