Narrow lead for Ceramco

NZPA-Reuter Portsmouth Ceramco New Zealand and the Dutch entry Flyer are tussling for the lead on the second leg of the round-the-world yacht race, according to latest reports. Nearly three weeks after

they left Cape Town for Auckland the New Zealand yacht had an edge of just four nautical miles, the Royal Naval Sailing Association has reported? Ceramco, is first on corrected time. It seems certain the record

of 30 days and nine hours set for the leg by Condor in the last round-the-world race will be beaten by the two leaders if they continue at the same pace. When it radioed its position Ceramco was 360 nautical miles nearer Auckland

than Condor was at the same stage in 1977-78. Chay Blyth and his yacht United Friendly formerly Great Britain 11, which holds the record for the whole race, is virtually in the same location as at the same stage four years ago.
