CANTERBURY FARMERS ANNUAL REMINDER The Canterbury and Westland Drivers Union has established in conjunction with local Federated Farmers and Road Transport representatives minimum safety standards in relation to grain silos. 1. Silo door size should be a minimum of .7 of a square metre with a mtetewm width of 4SO mflitnetres. 2. Where an apertwe only is made for the auger and access is required inside the sBo, steps are to be provided both inside and outside the site. 3. If the sdo has a manbote in the roof it is not to be less than 500 x 500 m.m. 4. For safetv reasons when a site is beinq emptied, a person capable of stopping all mechanical equipment be in attendance. 5. Al sites should be secured to the ground and should be designed to eiminate the possiiTfty of collapsing when silo is being emptied. 6. Bases of sites must be constructed of solid materials such as flat von, plywood, concrete.
