Armalight fancied to complete treble
By

Armalight is confidently expected to follow the lead of Hands Down 12 months ago and complete a treble in the main races at the New Zealand Cup carnival, which will end at Addington Raceway tomorrow.
The talented daughter of Timely Knight has won in style in the New Zealand Cup and the Benson and Hedges Free-for-all in world record time in her two appearances at the meeting. Tomorrow she has drawn the favoured No. 1 position in the Allan Matson Free-for-all, to be run over 2600 m from behind the mobile barrier. The national mobile-start record for the distance is 3min 16.6 s returned by the northern free-legged horse. Final Decision, in 1975. Given
reasonable track and atmospheric conditions Armalight. in her present form, could threaten that figure. Bonnie's Chance has proved superior to the other open-class horses racing at the meeting by acting as runner-up to Armalight in her two brilliant . winning efforts. This time Bonnie’s Chance has drawn the second line, which should enable her to track Armalight all the way. It is difficult to imagine Bonnie’s Chance beating Ar-
- malight. but she should prove • more than a match for the 1 others. The Victorian horse. Gammalite, showed his true abil- ; ity when he paced a mile time trial in Imin 56.1 s on Tuesday. He has had no luck ; in his racing so far at the i meeting, but this could ; change tomorrow. He must ; be considered as a leading I place chance. • Hands Down was never really in contention in last t Friday’s Free-for-all, but he was coming on strongly at
the end. suggesting that he is coming right back to the form which gave him victory in the Kaikoura . Cup oh November 2. Lord Module is the problem horse. His two sound trials last Monday earned him a start in the race and if he moves off with his rivals, he could be prominent as Cecil Devine has him in great condition. A win, or even a placing by any of the others, will be a'real boilover and the pick of- them could be Idolmite and Superior Chance.
