Pool accessories
A wide range of swimming pool accessories is available. Pool covers are designed to keep the heat in, the' debris outand, if strong enough, serve as a safety device. A floating cover will help retain heat but will not protect anybody from falling into the pool. Any pool that is 10m or more long and at least 3m deep can have a diving board. For competitive diving and swimming there are special requirements which are best discussed with the
coach of the local swimming club. . ~. Ladders are useful in vinyl lined pools, Stainless steel ladders ..last longer than chrome-plated brass ladders. Alternatively, in / other pools a combination of grab rails and foot holds can be used. Steps are embedded in the pool wall and the swimmer uses the rails as. a hand-hold when climbing out;Rails are cheaper than ladders and as the metal does not extend into the water, are not as susceptible to corrosion. Underwater lighting should
be considered if the pool is to be used at night. A rope lifeline is also an added precaution at night. The lifeline is used to mark the shallow end and indicate the beginning of the diving area or. to. mark off swimming lanes. Polyethylene or nylon rope is best as constant immersion in water has little effect on either. Apart from general functional items there is a wide range of other accessories. Pool games range from water polo, water basketball, badminton and floating quoits to underwater slalom. For the younger, members
of the family there are baby floats, toddler floats, and swim wings. More advanced swimmers can choose from an extensive selection of competitive training and racing equipment. , There are body length pool floats for lazing on the water and even floating lounge chairs. ■A dual function trampoline is suitable for diving or can be converted to normal use. The disabled are also catered for with collars for head flotation, pool lifts, and hydrotherapy frames for use in pools.
