Elderly cyclist dies after collision
A cyclist died in Christchurch Hospital yesterday afternoon after an accident at Halswell earlier in the day. He was
Francis Mallett, aged 67, retired, of Halswell.
The police said Mr Mallett’s bicycle and a car towing a caravan collided at the junction of Halswell Road and Glovers Road about 10 a.m.
A woman was still seriously .ill in the intensive-care unit at Christchurch Hospital last evening after an accident on Saturday evening. Rebecca Kohinga, aged 26, suffered serious head injuries when the car she was a passenger in hit a parked truck at the' corner' of£ Wainoni Road ; and Colac , Place.
A woman, aged 50, died in the accident and another woman needed treatment for minor injuries.
A Templeton man was still seriously ill at Christchurch Hospital last evening after a collision between his motorcycle and a car in Fendalton Road on Saturday evening. But Paul Johnson, aged 24, has been moved from the intensive-care unit to a ward. According to a Press Association message from New Plymouth two men are dead after the vehicles they were driving collided with trailer units about 2%km south of Inglewood yesterday. They were James Patrick Kennedy, aged 58, of Inglewood, who died instantly, and Steven John Suthon, aged 19, ..of New Plymouth, who ' died later in hospital. The accident occurred about 11.30 a.m. when an articulated truck with two trailer ‘units jack-knifed and swung across into oncoming traffic, the police said yesterday.
