Auctions AUCTION REPORT LAST week's two-day race meeting auction of glorious antiques was a great success. Attendances were good, bidding was keen, a buoyant market, passings: very few. Highest price $2OOO was for an 1826 three piece silver tea service closely followed by $1920 for 6 mahogany balloon back chairs, $lBOO for a E. Landseer oil, $1750 for a silver basket (1818), $l6OO for a Victorian half tester bed, and $l6OO for a charming M.O. Stoddan landscape water colour (1892). Two unusual items: an under and over ivory butt pistol by Lang. London, and an 1862 penny Full-Face-Queen stamp (1862). realised $BOO and $370 respectively. There was hushed silence, and then a loud gasp, when a R. Doulton Robt. Burns plate was finally knocked at $215. A 9ct gold muff chain fetched $650. $250 was paid for a set of 4 small copper measures. A magnificent E.V. mahogany sideboard (mirror back) 7ft 3in long, awaits a buyer who has a nice large room to house it. An absolute gift at $l6OO. It's a beauty. We will be conducting two more antique auctions (two estates) and at least one clearing sale before Christmas. All very good. Please watch the papers. ' -R. G.
