West Coast
PROFILE: The West Coast electorate stretches from Karamea in the north to Haast in the south. Farming, forestry, mining, fishing, and tourism are its main industries. Its biggest urban areas are Greymouth and Westport. 1978 results: Labour, 9167; National, 3520; West Coast Party, 3334; Social Credit, 3161; Values, 209. It is a safe Labour seat. National would need a 22.3 per cent swing to win the seat, although in 1978 Social Credit was very close behind National. MR T. K. BURKE
