Obituary Mr N. Ainsworth
A former general manager of the State Insurance Office, Mr Neville Ainsworth, has died after a short illness.
He joined the Office in Christchurch in 1936 and held several senior positions in branches and head office before his appointment as general manager in 1966. . Mr Ainsworth retired in 1979, and was the second longest serving general manager since the office opened in 1905; Under his leadership as general manager the State Insurance Office saw unprecedented growth. Premium income increased more .than 500 per cent, the number of ■policies almost doubled, investment income increased more than 400 per cent, and the office assets increased by 300 per cent. -
Mr Ainsworth was a member of several statutory boards and committees. His innovative and progressive style was widely recognised by the insurance industry and Government. He was instrumental in the
office's purchase of the State Trinity church in Christchurch as a community arts centre.
Mr Ainsworth was awarded the Queen's Service Order in 1978. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
