CONSTRUCTION SUPERVISOR LOCATION: Nauru Island, Central Pacific. THE COMPANY: The Nauru Phosphate Corporation, which was formed by the Republic of Nauru to develop phosphate depositson the island, is seeking the following staff: THE POSITION: The Construction Supervisor is responsible to the Building Maintenance Supervisor for all civil construction works within the Corporation, together with the operation of a batching plant for total island concrete supplies. Duties cover the supervision of preparation and pouring of all concrete works, concrete block manufacture, and brick and block construction works, together with scheduling concrete, sand and crushed aggregate supplies. Also responsible for the maintenance of fire brick lined drying and calcination equipment. The appointee who will be responsible for up to 40 men including tradesmen, carpenters and concretors, drivers, skilled and unskilled workers, will have a recognised trade qualification with a sound background and a minimum of 5 years experience in a supervisory capacity in concrete construction works. Preferred age 28-40 years. SALARY: Commencing salary within the range $A7946 to $A8514 p.a. (depending on qualifications and experience) tax free on Nauru plus island allowance of SASOO p.a. for single, SA9OO p.a. for married persons. Additionally, a child allowance for each child under 18 yearsof age, and an educational allowance for children being educated overseas. Paid overtime available. : DRAUGHTSMAN DESIGN (MECHANICAL) THE POSITION: A Draughtsman, well experienced in process plant and materials handling is needed in our Engineering Department. Main plants are for drying run of mine phosphate (in rotary dryers) and calcining dried phosphate in fluid BEC calciners (1035 Deg. C). Duties would be mainly alterations to existing plant including some layout. THE PERSON: Applicants should preferably be proficient in mechanical design, problem solving and trouble shooting, and able to handle projects with a minimum of supervision. Experience with instruments, hydraulics, pneumatics, high temperature metals, steam and other pressure vessels would help but is not essential. The successful applicant would be expected to help train Nauruan Trainee Draughtsmen. SALARY: Commencing within range $A8514/$A9650 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience (tax free on Nauru) plus island allowance of SASOO p.a. for single, SA9OO p.a. for married persons. Additionally, a child allowance for each child under 18 yearsof age, and an educational allowance for children being educated overseas. Paid overtime available. SUPERVISOR TREATMENT UNIT TREATMENT UNIT THE POSITION: The Supervisor is responsible to the Assistant Production Engineer for the operation and maintenanceof all equipment within the treatment unit. The plant includes belt conveyors, vibrating screens, cone crushers, rotary drying kilns, feeders and bucket elevators. THE PERSON: The applicant should have a trade background preferably as a fitter and have a working knowledge of most of the aboveequipment, and have experience in the supervision of a labour force. SALARY: Commencing salary within the range $A7946 to $A8514 per annum (depending on qualifications and experience) tax free on Nauru plus island allowance of SASOO p.a. for single, SA9OO p.a. for married persons. Additionally, a child allowance for each child under 18 yearsof age, and an educational allowance for children being educated overseas. Paid overtime available. CONDITIONS: Employment is on a permanent basis after satisfactory completion of the first 22 months' term of service. Free passage to the Island and return on leave. Eight weeks' recreation leave, plus travelling time on full pay and allowances after 22 months’ term of service on the Island. Free medical attention on the Island and immediate superannuation benefit available. Furnished married accommodation is available at a rental of SAIO per week. Single accommodation and messing SABIO p.a. Amenities on the Island include a staff recreation club, tennis and golf clubs. GENERAL- Nauru is a small island situated in the Central Pacific just south of the equator. Population is approx. 7500. A regular jet service operates twice weekly from Australia, once a week from New Zealand and weekly from Hong Kong and Singapore. The climate at Nauru is pleasant and healthy; the temperature range is 21-32 degrees Celsius.
