General forecast: A complex trough covering the central Tasman Sea is moving only slowly eastwards. A northerly airstream covering New Zealand is expected to bring mist and drizzle to northern and western districts. Some heavier showers are likely in the afternoon in inland North Island areas. In the east of both islands, fine mild weather should continue apart from high cloud at times. In the south of the South Island, fine weather at first, apart from a few showers in southern Fiordland and Southland, but a cool south-westerly change should spread more frequent showers into Southland and Otago this afternoon.
