Third blade success
The shearing pavilion at the Canterbury show was packed to capacity for most of the day yesterday for a great dav of shearing. The climax came at the end of the day when 44-year-old Donny Hammond from Timaru won the New Zealand open blades championship for the Caltex Golden Blades and a Wool Board gold medal. It was the third time he has won the championship and this year for the first time he has now won three major titles. The other two are the Alexandra Merino fine wool championship and the Waimate southern spring shears. This week's shearing has had an international flavour. Two
Peruvians, a German, and a young Frenchwoman all took part in the intermediate machine shearing section with credit.
