More quinellas

PA Wellington The T.A.B. will now take quinella betting on up to six races at mid-week race meetings — an increase of three on the number conducted at present. The move is in response, the T.A.B. said to the popularity of this type of betting as evidenced by its rising share of total T.A.B. turnover, particularly since the third T.A.B. quinella was introduced in February.

The maximum number of T.A.B. quinellas for meetings held on all Saturdays and on most Fridays, will remain at three, and on some mid-week days it will be necessary to operate on less than six. These limitations arise because the computer system has an over-all capacity of 25 quinellas in any selling period. The increased betting will begin on Tuesday.
