Shades’ shade falls

A man was taken to Christchurch Hospital after a glass ornament fell on him from the roof of the Shades Arcade, between Hereford Street and Cashel Street, yesterday. The object, believed to be a lampshade more than 40cm in diameter, glanced off the

man’s head and shattered on the tiled floor of the arcade. Shop staff and passers-by looked after the unlucky pedestrian, who had cuts to the head, but who otherwise was unhurt, until an ambulance arrived. The man was treated at Christchurch Hospital and discharged. His name was not known.
