Punctured spleen in stabbing

A youth suffered a punctured spleen when he was stabbed three times in the stomach with a pocket knife in Colombo Street on Wednesday night. The police had spoken to the youth, who was likely to be in Christchurch Hospital for about two weeks, said Detective Senior-Sergent J. Dwight yesterday. Another youth was treated at the hospital for a knife wound and discharged. Senior-Sergeant Dwight said the knife victims and

two other teen-aged youths had left the D.B. Sandridge Hotel in Colombo Street just before closing time. The four went to a nearby, hamburger bar. Two of them got into an argument with two other youths, who produced pocket knives, and a scuffle started. No arrest had been made, “but we have a fairly good idea who we are looking for,” said Senior-Sergeant Dwight. The youth in hospital was reported to be in a satisfactory condition last evening.
