General Forecast: The ridge of high pressure to the north and east of New Zealand is moving slowly away. The deep depression in the south Tasman Sea is moving slowly east. Between these two systems a moist north-westerly airstream covers New Zealand, bringing further rain to the west coast of the South Island today and scattered showers to the west of the North Island, but mainly dry weather in the east from Gisborne to Southland. However, a frontal zone could bring widespread rain to the west of the North Island and to Southland.
District forecasts: Canterbury: Occasional rain about the western ranges; cloudy elsewhere, with patches of drizzle at first; moderate cool north-east-erlies on the coast, but. warm north-westerlies gradually freshening inland. Marlborough, Nelson: Fresh northerlies; cloudy and mild with scattered light showers, • but general rain spreading from the west late this afternoon. Buller, Westland: Cloudy, with periods of rain; moderate north-easterlies. Outlook: Showers in Canterbury, Marlborough and Nelson; clearing weather in Buller and Westland.
