N.Z. pair to rescue

NZPA Perpignan The All Black medical team of the physiotherapist, Malcolm Hood, and Dr Peter Cunningham. averted a potentially fatal accident when the French seilection half-back Henri Giraud, was knocked out playing the All Blacks at Perpignan yesterday. the New Zealand pair were the first on the field after Giraud went to the ground during an extended period of play. They found that the

Frenchman had swallowed his tongue and had stopped breathing. “He was in big trouble — another half a minute and he could have been in severe trouble,” said Dr Cunningham later. The two New Zealanders acted quickly by lifting Giraud’s jaw to clear his throat passage and allow him to breath through his nose. The Frenchman recovered relatively quickly after being carried to the sideline.
