Twilight cricket begins

The sixth Canterbury twilight cricket competition, sponsored by "The Press," will begin on Monday evening, with the men’s matches again being played at Hospital Corner and the women’s games at Hagley Oval. All eight senior men’s clubs have entered, and will be joined by Marist, Suburban, Country and a Supporters’ side. The titleholder, East-Shirley, meets Suburban in the first round.

St Albans, which won the women’s section last summer, has been drawn against the runner-up, Riccarton. in its first match. The women will have two full rounds, and the men one. Prize money has been increased to $BOO, while the Canterbury Sports Depot is sponsoring prizes for the best individual batting and bowling aggregates, and the “player of the week" awards have been donated by Lion Breweries.
