Return to work at Twizel
PA Dunedin Storemen working tor the Ministry of Works and Development on the Twizel power project have returned to work. The men. who began a ban on certain areas of the project on November 6, returned to work understanding there would be talks between the Public Service Association and the State Services Commission about their problems. At Cromwell there appeared to be no progress towards a resumption of work. The workers’ union secretary. Mr Jim Tongue, said the ban had not yet affected union members. ’ He said the union was keeping a close eye on the situation, but expected it to be resolved soon. “I hope they will see the light and start' to negotiate," he said. The ban is in line with a national protest against refusal by the State Services Commission to consider revision of the storemen's grading structure. The 11 Clutha project storemen, all members ot the combined state unions, are refusing to issue items such as gas bottles, welding rods, and concrete additives. They are also working to rule and refusing to work on Saturdays.
