Appeal fails

A sub-committee of the Canterbury* District Committee has upheld a decision by the Canterbury Jockey Club’s judicial committee, which last Saturday found the apprentice G. J. Laming guilty of foul riding and suspended him up to and including December 31. The sub-committee of Messrs A. L. Mclntosh (chairman), E. J. Richards, and V. Jack, yesterday heard an appeal against the suspension. which followed a charge made against G. J. Laming after the Edward Lumley Handicap on the first day of the New Zealand Cup meeting. After considering all the evidence and viewing a film of the race the sub-commit-tee decided that because of the serious nature of the offence the suspension to the end of the year must stand. Costs of'slso have been awarded against the suspended apprentice's employer. S. B. Laming.
