General forecast: The ridge of high pressure over New Zealand is moving slowly eastwards, but will continue to bring fine weather in the east from Gisborne to Southland during today. The cold front in the eastern Tasman Sea is weakening as it moves eastwards but will bring cloudy skies to the rest of New Zealand during the day, with showers on the West Coast of the South Island. District forecasts: Canterbury: Mainly fine, but considerable high cloud at times and scattered rain about the Alps this morning; northerlies, fresh at times on the
coast and moderate inland; cool. Nelson: Cloudy and cooler, with scattered rain about the western ranges; moderate northerlies. Marlborough; Mainly fine, but cloudy at times; northerlies' predominating, fresh about the Sounds and moderate elsewhere; mild. Buller, Westland: Cloudy with rain easing to scattered showers later this morning; moderate northerlies; cool. Outlook: Rain over most of the North Island and in the west and far south of the South Island; mainly fine elsewhere.
