Two riders fined

PA Woodville Two riders were fined $5O by the judicial committee of the Woodville District Jockey Club yesterday. Dave Johnston was fined $5O after the running of the Te Rehunga Highweight in which his mount, Shimal Howa, improved from an outside barrier position towards the running rail without being the required distance ahead. He checked Caprician on the inside. An apprentice, Chris Johnson, was also fined $5O following the Three-Year-Old 6000. Approximately 200 m after the start, there was a sharp check to Were Wolf (D. Peake), which was on the inside of Bedlam (Johnson). Johnson was charged with not giving the inside runner sufficient room. Volare was a late scratching from the Three-Year-Old 6000. She had a swelling on the left side of her neck shortly before being loaded on the float on Tuesday morning. A veterinary certificate was produced stating that the horse did have swelling, possibly due to an insect sting. The veterinary surgeon stated the horse was unfit to race. Peter Van Wanrooy escaped injury when Gayzella, his mount in the second Woodlands Maiden clipped the heels of an outside runner, Primasea, and dislodged him from the saddle shortly after the start.
